The Issue With TikTok’s Surveillance Over International Borders

TikTok, being launched in 2016, now sees over 1 billion daily users, making it the 6th largest social media platform in 2023

What is China doing with TikTok today?

ByteDance, the owners of TikTok have the ability to access users’ personal information such as browsing history, location, and biometric identifiers, such as fingerprint and facial recognition. China’s authoritarian government at any moment can order ByteDance to turn over any and all information collected due to the 2017 National Intelligence Law.

"A report last year found TikTok was spying on journalists, snooping on their user data and IP addresses to find out when or if certain reporters were sharing the same location as company employees." according to CNN Business. TikTok later confirmed this incident to be true.

Our Mission

Our goal is to restrict TikTok by making it more US controlled or regulated instead of completely banning the app or letting it remain to be used by the CCP. The issue of cybersecurity and the protection of personal information is brought forth when the theory of TikTok sending user data to China has been confirmed. For the safety of the youth of California, we must control TikTok. We are students at Saratoga High School who comprehend the severity of the situation at hand and who seek to protect the very lives of the youth.
